Nervous about it and glad it will be done. Assuming tomorrow goes well...3 demos done! One requirement off my list.
Making progress.

Resting up for the demo
My shoulder has started to act up (I think in part from all the drumming and pushups) so I took it easy today for the demo coming up. After Monday I can start pushing it again, but for now I want to play it safe. Nothing worse than a side-lining injury before a demo! I think it's good to have a couple good rest days before a big performance, gives your body a chance to heal up and prepare. Then I'll be totally ready to go hard on Monday. Our stuff is starting to look really good. I hope someone video-tapes it.
Basic numbers: broadsword, 3, tai chi, 1, pushups, 6, crunches, 0, kicks, 0
Acts of kindness: Encouraged a friend, jumped with Julia on her Grandmas trampoline (this is an act of kindness because I'm not a big trampoliner), gave my cat and dog treats.
Today I consumed: a piece of peanut butter and jam toast, some leftover chill, some salad, roast pork and baked potatoe. I drank a cup of tea, 8 glasses of water and a beer.

World War Z
Went and saw World War Z tonight in the theatre. It was alright as far as zombie movies go. I always think about what I would do if faced with that situation (any movies). I like to think I would be a super ninja that would chop my way through with my trusty sword. Part of me knows I'll need more practice to be ready for zombies though.

Thanks Romeo
I learned something about my spinning back kick tonight.....I'm swinging it a little bit:(
How did I find this out?
I'm in the kitchen doing my thing when the dog comes in and lays down in front of me. I went to do my kick and caught his nose (he's fine don't worry) while I was coming around. Unfortunately my husband saw so now I'll never live it down...."did you just kick his face?!?"
Bah!
Have to work on getting that crane stance up!
Basic numbers: 202 crunches, 204 pushups, 208 kicks, 4 tai chi reps, 3 broadsword reps
Acts of kindness: made Julia a picnic lunch, made Mike breakfast and a lunch, phoned my gramma
Today I consumed: half a breakfast sandwich, a banana, a peanut butter and jam sandwich, some chill with bread, a slice of pie and I'm eating some toquitos right now before bed (bad I know!). I drank 23 cups of tea and 8 glasses of water and 1 beer with the toquitos.

Don't lose heart now guys!
So lately, there has been a lot of frustration regarding the demo. I know that the going has been tough. I myself have been frustrated. Many people in the I Ho Chuan don't have very much experience doing demos, if any at all. Some of us have a lot of experience. Canada Day will help bridge that experience gap a little bit.
Getting involved in a big scale demo can be very intimidating and overwhelming. It takes a lot of time, effort and sometimes you feel like it is consuming your life.
If you find yourself feeling frustrated and disheartened, I encourage you to do something positive about it. By changing your attitude towards something, you influence those around you to do the same. This demo isn't a hoop for us to jump through, it is an opportunity for us to come together as a team and grow. We need to pull together and support each other. I know it's a stressful time....but to be honest I've never been involved in a demo that wasn't a little bit stressful. But if we all work hard, the demo will be a success and something we can all learn from. This is an opportunity for us to grow and I hope everyone sees that.
Basic numbers: pushups: 204; crunches: 202; kicks: 208; tai chi reps: 4; broadsword reps: 6
Acts of kindness: let 2 people in front of me in traffic, let a guy turn ahead of me at the 4way stop, gave my dog a treat and bought Julia a kinder surprise as a treat.

Church going
Had a nice day with Julia today. We even went to church. One of my goals this year was to go to church every Sunday (52 times). I've been finding that really difficult though as I have to bring Julia. It's hard for her to stay focused and quiet for an hour or more. She really likes the music though. I think it's good to expose her. I would like her to grow up in the church like I did so I want to bring her more. It is hard to get going in the morning though. Bah!
But today I went, so yay!
Basic numbers: rest day so none
Acts of kindness: let my husband sleep in, organized a disastrous cupboard and ordered Julia a special case for our ipad so she can play with it too.
Today I consumed: a peanut butter bagel, half an apple, a tims breakfast sandwich and hashbrown, 2 hotdogs, a cup of tea, 6 glasses of water, 1 coffee and 1 beer.

Getting older
Today we had my birthday celebration. I'm turning 29 this year. I have to say, since I had cancer and all, I'm not scared of getting old anymore. Getting old is a blessing. I'm proud that I've turned another year older. It was another great year that I got to spend with my family and friends.
I know getting old bothers some people....turning grey, getting wrinkles, etc., but it shouldn't. Be thankful that the Lord has blessed you with so many years.
Getting older is also good for your Kung-Fu....or at least it can be. As you get older, you lose the strength and speed of your youth and instead you have to rely on timing and technique. As a result, you must improve. That's why older martial artists are so awesome...or at least can be awesome.
So ya...getting older has a lot of perks.
Enjoy it!
Basic numbers: only did 51 pushups today:(
Acts of kindness: brought my dog with us to get wood, cuddled my cat, gave my dog a treat, complimented a friends baking.
Today I consumed: half a bagel with peanut butter, a cheese bun, half a peanut butter and jam sandwich, a hotdog, a cheeseburger with some salad, 3 birthday cupcakes, a bite of cake, 2 cups of tea, 2 beer and 6 glasses of water.

Trust Issues
We had a good turnout for practice tonight. Thanks to everyone who came out! We are making progress and it's nice to see. We still have a lot of work ahead of us but if people stay committed we will pull through.
One issue I've noticed at practices lately is the lack of trust. Not so much amongst the dragon dancers, but more-so in regards to taking direction from Sifu Rybak and myself. Everyone wants the dance to be spectacular, and everyone has good points about how to make it that way, but you can only really follow one vision at a time. Following the choreography of another takes trust. You have to trust that they have the experience to know what looks good, what doesn't and a sense of timing. You also have to trust the process. Rarely do things in a dance stay the same. If you've ever been involved in a Chinese New Year dance, you know things usually change all the time, even the night before. One of the most important things lion dancing has taught me is to be adaptable. You need to be adaptable as things change and progress. That's how things improve. Being adaptable is one of the key qualities of a black belt.
A lack of trust is dangerous because it can lead to an increase in ego. Before adding a comment during practice, consider if it is truly necessary at that moment. Most likely, if it's an issue with the dance, it's already been noticed but hasn't been brought up because the focus is on getting the basic sequence down for now. I'm not saying don't bring things up, but I am saying that maybe a better way would be to bring the comments up at the end of practice instead of during, or just bring them to Sifu Rybak or myself and we'll pass them on when appropriate.
But, I think it was a good practice and I'm proud of our progress so far. I think Canada day will work out. Everyone is working super hard and it's showing in how well everyone is coming together.
Basic numbers: tai chi reps: 4, broadsword: 4, pushups: 204, sit-ups: 202, kicks: 208.

Today I consumed: 2 pieces of peanut butter raison toast, a cheese burger (not fast food!), a porkchop with mashed potatoes, gravy with wild mushrooms, carrots and asparagus (thank you mother-in-law!) and a bit of left over pasta. I drank a cup of coffee, an ice-cap, 6 glasses of water and a beer.

Good Times
Yesterday we helped set up and take down tables for the street market. It was a great experience for the I Ho Chuaners to bond with each other outside of the kwoon. After we set up, Sihing Choy invited us all over for breakfast. It was great! It's things like that that you remember forever...people smiling and laughing with each other and sharing an accomplishment (like helping out in the community). It is such a great opportunity. I hope that next time something like this needs doing that more people come out. It's not just doing something for others....it does something for you too.
Happy Fathers day everyone whos a father!
Acts of kindness: let my husband sleep in, did his chores for him and got my parents cards for fathers day and my moms birthday. I also coloured with Julia and helped her make a fathers day card.
Today I consumed: 4 pieces of homemade raison bread with peanut butter, a piece of bacon, a potato patty, 2 slices of poppyseed roll, a perigee, a third of a sausage and some vegetables. I drank 8 glasses of water, a cup of coffee and 2 cups of tea.

Congrats Mr. Donahue!
So we had our meeting today. A lot of people are struggling. I find that the people who struggle most are the ones who don't come to the kwoon very often. When you are around inspiring people trying to better themselves, it inspires you to push harder. That's why I'm able to keep going. I am constantly around great, like-minded people who expect a lot from me. I wish the rest of the team would get that aspect. We can help each other, but only if we reach out to one another. Even if you can't come to class, journalling and keeping on kwoon talk do the same things.
I hope everyone left the meeting feeling uplifted. People are struggling yes, but people are also doing great things. Mr. Donahue got his Masters electrician! Awesomeness!
We need to pull together and support each other. No man left behind!
Acts of kindness: helped put up and take down tables for the farmers market, played with another visiting baby who is super cute! and loved up my cat. I also gave a piece of meat to my dog and cat as a treat.
Today I consumed: a bran muffin, half a pancake with syrup, a piece of brown toast with butter, a small poutine, some salad and some lamb and elk with pasta salad. I also ate 2 slices of poppyseed loaf from the farmers market (so good!). I drank 2 cups of coffee, 2 cups of tea, 7 glasses of water and a beer.

Rant
So tonight we had a little preliminary meeting. The moral of the story is that we need to be honest with ourselves about what we are actually doing. We need to keep on the core requirements and if you aren't logging them, you aren't doing them. Journalling was mentioned of course, as was dragon/lion dance. We are in the hard-core crunch time for Canada day and it seems that the closer we get, the harder it is to wrangle people. We just need to push hard for 2 weeks and then we can breath again.
I know it's hard to come to the practices and I know it seems like we've been practicing forever, but suck it up! We've all known about this demo for half a year now, quit making excuses and come to practices! If you don't, we might not have enough people and we'll have to cancel the dragon dance.
I just find it really frustrating. I know that people wanna spend time with their families and such and it is a big commitment, but we have to find a way to get it done.
I know I'm ranting a bit here, but again, I'm just a little frustrated with the turnout. How the heck are we going to pull off 2 dragons for chinese new year?
After Canada day, we can relax a bit again.
Acts of kindness: made my husband lunch, bought him a father's day gift and gave my cat extra luvins
Today I consumed: a bran muffin, an apple, 2 pastries, 2 brownies and a piece of fudge (a lot of sweets today I know) and some chicken pasta and a bowl of soup. I drank 4 cups of tea and 5 glasses of water.
Thanks Sifu Robinson for the fudge!

Bad time of year I guess
Attendance was pretty low at practice tonight. I'm a little worried about Canada Day. I know a lot of people are away this weekend but I hope next week we get a good turnout. I don't think we are going to have many people for the meeting this Saturday either.
I feel bad about the street sale thing. You'd think that out of 25 people, we'd be able to wrangle 5 or 6 guys....Summer is always a hard go people go camping, visit family and there's all sorts of special occasions to attend.
I just hope people realize what an opportunity Canada Day is. I hope everyone takes advantage of the chance to be a part of it.
Acts of kindness: I made my husband lunch, I said hello to 2 people on my dog walk and I gave my dog a treat.
Today I consumed: a bran muffin, some instant noodles with toast, some bread with hummus, 3 mini brownies and some salmon with rice and peas. I drank a cup of decaf coffee, 2 cups of tea and 6 glasses of water.

Booyah!
Went and picked up my Masters degree today. Whabamm! That's right, I'm officially a Master of Science!
Kung-Fu has totally helped my discipline, which enabled me to get the job done at school even with distractions. Thanks Kung-Fu!
Acts of kindness: I helped make my dog some hamburger and rice as a treat, I smiled and said thank you when someone held the door for Julia and I, and I cleaned up dog mess so my husband didn't have too (blech!)
Today I consumed: a bran muffin, a couple pieces of fruit, some bread and hummas, some chicken with rice and veggies and a couple of brownies and a pastry. I drank 4 cups of tea and 6 glasses of water.

San Sou awesomeness!
So I went to San Sou tonight. It was great! We did so many different drills and some sparring too. I didn't feel intimidated at all! It's funny how you can build up a fear of something in you mind and then you actually go and check it out and it's completely different.
I think a big part of my fear was being able to keep up physically. I'm getting my body back to health, but I always worry that something will happen to set me back. When I first came back and we sparred in the black belt class, I got so sick afterwards. I didn't know it at the time, but I had a really bad internal infection and pushing it in sparring really weakened my system. Since then I've been so nervous. But tonight I pushed it hard and I'm ok.
I think as time goes on I'll be less and less worried about health stuff. Already I'm not as scared of getting sick again. I think it just takes time.
Stupid being sick!
Stupid being scared of being sick!
But ya, San Sou was super fun...you were right Sifu Lindstrum!
Acts of kindness: Gave my cat extra pets, put the bar on the conveyer for the lady at the grocery, helped unload gear from the trailer, made dinner.
Today I consumed: half a bagel with cream cheese, a bowl of macaroni, some bread with hummas, 3 tacos with all the fixin's, 4 mini chocolate chip cookies and a yogurt cup. I drank a cup of coffee, 3 cups of tea and 7 glasses of water.

What is the state of my Kung-Fu?
What is the state of your Kung-Fu? That is the question I find myself asking. Am I where I need to be? Are things going according to plan? Honestly, no...But I'm still trying. I am still working at it. I can do this!
I've developed good habits and I just need to pick it up a little and I'll be on track. This year has had great effects on my life already. Diet changes, giving up t.v., dog walking, exercise....what a great start! Now just to implement the rest of the changes I want to do.
Acts of kindness: I gave my cat treats, I waved thank you to a driver for letting me in and I made my husband a bagel.
Today I consumed: 2 pieces of peanut butter and honey toast, a peanut butter and jam sandwich, a carrot, an apple, some graham bunnies, a granola bar and 2 pieces of peanut butter and nutella toast. I drank a cup of coffee and 2 cups of tea and 7 glasses of water.

Busy day!
Crazy busy day....church, then church council meeting, then nieces birthday party then brothers bbq.
Barely time to breath it seems! Good thing Sunday is my no-reps day.
For acts of kindness today I made vegan salads for my brothers bbq, I helped do the dishes at my niece's birthday party and I let someone ahead of me in line.
I consumed 2 pieces of peanut butter and honey toast, some smoked chicken with caesar salad and corn on the cob with garlic bread, a bbqd cheese burger with potato salad, bean salad and grated carrot salad. I drank 2 cups of coffee and 2 cups of tea and 4 glasses of water.

Heritage Days Demo Success!
Today's parade and demo went really well. Sorry to Mr Leung though for the whole sending-him-into-the-bushes thing. Although I'm sure it looked cool.
Now just to prepare for Canada day. We have to step up our game for that one I think.
I'm sure it will go well as long as we continue to work hard and improve. We have to remember that these (demos) are the moments that we look back on and smile. Performing with amazing people makes you feel amazing too. It's such a privilege (I know that sounds corny, but whatever!) and so exciting.
If things don't go well, you still look back and smile, but you smile because that was the moment you learned something valuable....
You carry that knowledge on to the next demo and you grow because of it.
For acts of kindness: I carried a lot of peoples keys in my bag, I picked up the candy and lettuce and I drove a teammate to the parade and back again.
Today I consumed: 2 pieces of peanut butter and nuttella toast, 2 bbgd cheeseburgers and some grilled salmon with cheese and crackers. I drank 6 glasses of water, half a cup of tea, an english toffee coffee and a beer.

Step up for Canada day!
Tonights practice was awesome.
I am so excited for the Canada day demo. People are doing such diverse things. Everyone better come with their stuff this Thursday to show Sifu Wetter! I think that we have a really powerful group of people and I really believe that we can accomplish a lot of things....like a spectacular Canada Day demo!
For acts of kindness today: I commented on some blogs, I gave my dog a belly rub, I said hi to two different people on my dog walk and I played outside for an hour with Julia and the dog.
Today I consumed: 3 pieces of peanut butter and jam toast, a bowl of macaroni, a bowl of vegetarian chili and a hot dog. I drank 5 cups of tea, 6 glasses of water and 1 beer.

Subbing in time?
I had a look at my pushups in a mirror...need to work on them and get lower down. Pushup technique is such a struggle!
On a dragon dance note....I think I'd like to start subbing in. I've been trying to hold back because of the whole drumming thing...but it'd be nice to be a part of the dragon too I think. Plus it would give people a break and a rest.
Tonight I kind of felt like a bump on a log with nothing to do during practice...
Although I guess I could have done pushups....could've improved my technique (see above). See, Kung-Fu is circular.
For acts of kindness: I let 2 cars in front of me, held the door for 2 people and gave my cat some belly rubs.
Today I consumed: a bran muffin, a peanut butter and jam sandwich, 2 boiled eggs, a chocolate chip cookie, an orange, an apple, some leftover spaghetti and a cheese sandwich. I drank a cup of coffee, 4 cups of tea and 6 glasses of water.

Glad I gave up TV
Tonight I watched a documentary about the tea party. It's called "The Billionaires' Tea Party" on YouTUbe. It's interesting to see how people are manipulated by the media and big business. Kind of scary.
One good thing about giving up TV is that we are exposed to far less media. I'm glad we gave up TV.
For acts of kindness: returned some library books for a coworker, I picked up a letter for a coworker and I helped move a huge rock to my bosses car.
Today I consumed: a bran muffin, half a banana, a bbqd cheese burger, a smokie and a yogurt cup. I drank 8 glasses of water and 3 cups of tea.

To clarify...I meant next Tuesday, not tonight!
So I'm going to san sou next week.
Body is pretty stiff today. It was hard to do push ups.
Got my hair cut to.....now I'm stylin'!
For acts of kindness: gave my cat treats, made my dog rice to help his stomach....although I burned his hamburger:(, and I gave my hairdresser an extra nice tip.
Today I consumed: a bran muffin, a bagel with cream cheese, an orange, some left over minestrone soup with 2 buns and a smoky. I drank 2 cups of tea, 6 glasses of water and 1 beer.

Ok, next week I will come to San Sou
There I told everyone, so I'd better go.
On another note, I'm sitting here blogging and noticing all of the disarray that has taken over my house.
My house seems like it's constantly messy. I can't say that I'm a neat freak, but over the years I've come to realize that a calm house makes for a calm mind. A calm house is one with not too much clutter, fairly tidy and easy to move around in. Since the tiny one and the dog have come, our house is always messy. I'm finding that a little overwhelming sometimes. It seems like I'm struggling to keep up with my requirement, the babe, family, classes, work and life in general and house cleaning seems to always fall low on the list. Thankfully Mike has been stepping up a lot. When it's his year I'll have to do the same.
I don't think both of us could do the program in the same year...it would just be too much.
Although when I say that part of me thinks " that's not true, the I Ho Chuan is meant to make us better people and we could both work on that the same time....we'd just have to make our family one of the requirements." I respect the Csillags for taking this on both in the same year.....but it must be difficult. The more I think about it though, the more I think it would be a good kind of difficult.
For acts of kindness I held the door for someone, I helped put away field gear and I gave a friend of mine a fossil I brought back from field work for her.
Today I consumed: a bagel with cream cheese, an apple, a piece of chocolate cake, a boiled egg, a bran muffin, some steak, home-made macaroni salad and beans and I drank 6 glasses of water, 3 cups of tea and 1 coffee.

San Sou
I realized today that if I start going to San Sou class, I will be at the kwoon 6 days a week. I want to go to San Sou to get sparring reps in, but it's hard to give up a night with my family. Plus I find the class intimidating. When I think of San Sou, I think of big guys fighting rough and that makes me nervous. It's not that I don't think I can handle myself, but I'm worried that I won't be able to learn as much because I will be busy "fighting for my life"...so to speak. I also have a big fear of getting injured during sparring. I had a bad experience once and I'm extra cautious now.
I know these sound a lot like excuses, but they are hard things to overcome. I think one of these days I should just go and see how it is. I haven't been to a class in such a long time. Maybe I should actually see for myself.
Acts of kindness: I filled my husbands car up with gas, I held the door for someone and I brought my husband some buns to go with his soup.
Today I consumed: a bagel with cream cheese, a timmies breakfast sandwich, 2 pieces of peanut butter and nutella toast and a bowl of home-made soup with 2 buns. I drank 4 glasses of water, half a cup of coffee and 1 cup of tea and a beer.

1 Parade and demo down!
So we had the parade and demo today. The Stony parade is always so long! My arms and fingers were sore after from drumming. Good thing Sifu Brinker was there to switch off with. I was trying to remember the first parade I was in. I've been in quite a few. I remember when we used to have only the two lions and they were very heavy! A lot has changed since then. We have way more lion dancers now which is nice and the dragon really grabbed everyones attention. The crowd this year was huge too which always makes a parade more fun.
The demo went ok. I messed up my form again but managed to finish. You'd think I didn't practice at all! It's really frustrating. Oh well, keep trying and get it right for Heritage days.
I found out that I stabbed a hole in Mr Leungs shirt during practice too. I'll have to get him a new one...but that is kind of cool.
Acts of kindness: I picked up the candy and lettuce, I let Sifu Lindstrum store some stuff in my pack and I gave Julia some of my popsicle (which ended up with her taking the popsicle and eating it in front of me....go figure!). I also gave my cat extra pets.
Today I consumed: a bagel with cream cheese, some beans and toast and I'm going out for dinner. I drank 5 glasses of water so far and a half cup of tea.
